What We’re Doing:

The Golden Hikes website is a not-for-profit venture.  We are simply providing you with road access and hiking trail information so that you can check out some cool places.  The small revenue generated by advertisements will be used solely to maintain the website.  We have limited resources to provide up to date trail information, so we will not attempt to do so.  Given our limited means, please do not email us asking us for, or providing us with, trail conditions.  We are giving you the basic information on where the trails are located and how you can usually reach them.  The rest is up to you. Enjoy!

Trail Conditions and Road Conditions:

As indicated above we are unable to provide information concerning trail conditions.  Looking at the trail report on the Parks Canada websites (you can find the links here: Parks Canada Website Links) for hiking trails in Glacier, Yoho, or Banff National Parks may give you some idea of what is happening in the alpine.  Many trails in the mountains are not snow free until early July – find out about conditions before you go.  In addition, don’t count on there being signage on trails outside of the national parks.  Weather conditions change quickly in the mountains.  Regardless of how hot is it when you start your hike, pack a toque, warm jacket and rain layer; you are in a mountain environment.

Be aware that road access and road conditions change frequently.  A road that you follow in to a location may have a tree across it on the way back – bring a saw.  Many back roads do not have cell phone coverage.  Leave an itinerary with someone.  Many of the access roads are active or previously active logging roads.  Active logging roads may require a radio to let drivers know you are there.  Also, logging roads change as logging locations change.  There is no guarantee that the descriptions provided here for access roads are up to date.

Note that trail times are approximate for an average hiker of average fitness.  If you hike with your head down on a mission, then you will be considerably faster than the estimated times.  All distances and times are for one way, unless otherwise noted.

Being Bear Aware:

Please remember that all these trails are in bear country.  At the very minimum take bear spray.  For more information please visit our Bear Aware page.
